JEMISON – A long season for Jemison football continued Friday with a 47-0 home loss to region foe Helena.

The Panthers are still looking for their first win as their record fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in region play.

Helena improves to 4-2 and 3-1 in a game the Huskies controlled from the start.

Visiting Helena took a 7-0 lead after its first possession of the game on an 18-yard run by Devan Walker and point-after by Kevin Mahon.

Jemison lost a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, but Helena gave it back to the Panthers on their 10-yard line with a lost fumble of their own.

The turnover fest continued as Helena’s Richard Cummings intercepted a Jemison pass and ran it back about 20 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead, after the extra point, with about eight and half minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Brett Granger blocked a Jemison punt, picked up the loose ball and ran it in for the Huskies’ next score, and Helena led 20-0 with 6:18 on the clock.

Helena made it 26-0 in the first quarter on a 14-yard run by quarterback Lawson Peoples on third-and-goal.

JHS found some success moving the ball on the ground against the Helena defense, with quarterback Phillip Lenoir picking up a couple of first downs on keepers, but the Panthers couldn’t sustain a drive.

After a 64-yard touchdown run by Ray Olford IV made the score 33-0, another Jemison possession ended with a fumble. This time, it was recovered by Helena’s Norri Tinker Jr.

Helena’s first score of the second half came on a 11-yard pass from Riley Davis to Phildon Dublin, as the quarterback faked a handoff then threw a quick strike over the middle.

The Huskies missed a field goal in the fourth quarter but brought the score to its final on a 23-yard run by Peoples on an option keeper with 4:10 left to play.
