HELENA–Helena Elementary School first graders showed off what they had been working on for months as they took the stage in the HES cafeteria to perform their fall musical performance.

Parents, grandparents and siblings packed the cafeteria to see the musical performance that included a variety of songs with themes based on the fall season.

Students wore matching T-shirts based on which class they were in and some of the songs they sang included describing autumn and Halloween, roasting marshmallows, a song about bats and more.

Each song included a variety of hand motions and choreography that the students have been working on since the beginning of the school year.

After the performance, HES first grader Hayes Mayer was asked what his favorite song of the musical was.

“My favorite song was autumn leaves,” said Mayer. “We’ve worked on the songs since the beginning of the school year.”

The performances were split up into two separate performances to accommodate for all those in attendance.

“These are usually about 20 minute shows to show parents what the students have been learning in their music classes since the beginning of the year,” said HES Principal Mary Cooper. “They are always fun and I think the students enjoy performing.”
