Mattie Sue Dawson, a resident of Montevallo and the daughter of Manley and Maude Dawson, passed away Sunday, Oct. 18.

She was born Oct. 28, 1913. She attended Gorgas High School and graduated from the University of Alabama. She received a master’s degree from Iowa State University. She worked in education for 41 years, first as a teacher and then for the state as District Supervisor of Home Economics in Northwest Alabama.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Montevallo and had resided at Knowlwood Asst. Living for the past 3 years.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews, Ann Dawson of Alabaster, Gilene Dawson of Homewood, Charles Frew (Kathi) of Huntsville, David Frew of Atlanta, and Suzanne Frew of California.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Montevallo, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Berry Cemetery in Berry.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First UMC, Montevallo.
