MONTGOMERY–After winning the area tournament in convincing fashion at home, the Helena Huskies volleyball team kept things rolling in the Super Regionals in Montgomery the weekend of Oct. 23.

Helena took on Jackson High School on Friday, Oct. 23 where it had no problem taking care of the Aggies in straight sets. The Huskies defeated Jackson 25-2, 25-12, 25-9, to advance in the tournament.

On Saturday, Oct. 24 Helena split matches, defeating Alabama Christian Academy in four sets and then losing to St. Paul’s in four sets.

Helena defeated Alabama Christian Academy 25-17, 16-25, 25-14, 25-16 to advance to its match with St. Paul’s.

The Huskies had a tougher time with the Saints as St. Paul’s defeated Helena 25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15.

Even with the loss to St. Paul’s, Helena will advance to the Elite Eight Volleyball State Championships held in Birmingham on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Helena will take on Guntersville High School at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals at the Birmingham CrossPlex. If they win, they will advance to the semifinals to take on the winner of the Calera-Lawrence County match.

The other teams from Shelby County who advanced to the state championships were Pelham, Calera and Indian Springs.
