Thompson girls claim first bowling title of the season

NORTH SHELBY – Bowling has officially started its second full season as a sanctioned sport through the AHSAA. This is the first year that the sport will crown a state champion, and the state championship match will take place at Oak Mountain Lanes in January of 2016.
On Friday, Oct. 30, Thompson High School hosted the first tournament of the new season at Oak Mountain Lanes in Pelham. A total of 11 different schools competed in the inaugural event, including teams from the area along with a few teams from the Huntsville area competed as well.
Thompson High School won the girls’ division at the match. The team qualified third out of seven teams heading into the single elimination bracket round.
In the first round the Lady Warriors defeated Ramsay High School 2-0 to move on to the semis. In the semifinal round they defeated Vestavia High School 2-1 before moving on the the championship match, where they defeated James Clemens High School 2-1.
This is the first bowling trophy to go into the trophy case at Thompson High School.
Team members included: Jalexia Griffin, Alexianna Griffin, Alexis Wilkes, Katie Keener, Gillian Baker, Jessica Lynn Sherman. Coaches are Michael Craycraft and Chris Hollingsworth.
The girls’ next match is on Monday November 9th at Oak Mountain Lanes vs. Hoover and Indian Springs. Match begins at 4pm.
