Nighttime drivers on Interstate 65 in Alabaster and Pelham and U.S. 280 in Hoover may want to allow some additional time for their travels over the next few weeks as the Alabama Department of Transportation is working on the final phases of a few repaving and sinkhole repair projects.

From 7 p.m.-5 a.m. Sundays-Thursdays and from 9 p.m.-8 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, crews will hold nightly lane closures on Interstate 65 northbound between the Propst Promenade exit in Alabaster and the tank farm exit in Pelham.

The nightly lane closures on I-65 northbound will come as crews work to repair and repave the roadway, which was identified as in need of attention by the ALDOT road review division a few years ago, ALDOT engineer Gary Smith said previously.

According to an ALDOT road advisory, the repaving project likely will be completed by Nov. 15, and will include new bridge rails and a traffic detection pole. ALDOT completed repaving and repairing I-65 southbound between the tank farm and Promenade exits over the summer.

ALDOT also is warning of possible delays further north on I-65, as crews are continuing work to repair sinkholes and replace concrete flumes between the Alabama 119 exit in Pelham and the Valleydale Road exit in Hoover.

According to ALDOT, heavy equipment may be working near the roadway, possibly requiring lane closures.

In eastern Shelby County, ALDOT is continuing a project to make improvements at the intersection of U.S. 280 and Alabama 119. Once completed, the project will add additional lanes to U.S. 280 through the intersection.

Each night through Nov. 15, crews may hold lane closures between to perform repaving on Alabama 119 between Corporate Drive and Greystone Way and on U.S. 280 eastbound and westbound between Brook Highland Drive and Hugh Daniel Drive.

One-lane closures on U.S. 280 are permitted Sundays-Thursdays from 9 p.m.-5 a.m., on Fridays from 10 p.m.-7 a.m. and on Saturdays from 10 p.m.-8 a.m. Two-lane closures are permitted Sundays from midnight-3 a.m., Mondays-Thursdays from 11 p.m.-3 a.m., Fridays from midnight to 4 a.m. and on Saturdays from midnight-5 a.m.
