Concession stand, restroom bids opened for city’s sports complex

CHELSEA – A bid opening for the concession stand and restrooms at the Chelsea Sports Complex off Shelby County 11 was held Nov. 5 at City Hall.
Eight companies submitted bids for this part of the project.
The following bids were opened for the concession stand and restrooms: Coston General Contractors, $389,900, plus an addition of $9,860 to the base bid; Clements Dean Construction, $418,000; Bennett Building, Inc., $525,000, minus a $60,000 deduction from the base bid; A.G. Gaston Construction Co., $476,125, plus an addition of $22,000 to the base bid; Metro D Construction, LLC, $600,000, minus a $47,651 deduction from the base bid; Willford Orman Construction, $448,950; Douglas Built, LLC, $438,333; and Safford Building Co., LLC, $643,800, plus an addition of $60,000.
Sherrod Construction Co., Inc., and Psalms Construction, Inc. were on the bid list but did not submit bids.
The Chelsea City Council will vote on the bids at its Tuesday, Nov. 17 meeting.
The council voted Sept. 15 to accept the lowest and best bid of $1,133,187 from Coston General Contractors for Phase 1, along with $11,500 for decorative fencing at the complex’s entrance, and the lowest and best bid of $348,150 from Titan Electric for lighting and electrical components.
Plans are to complete the first phase of the 100-acre complex by the spring of 2016.
