PELHAM – Believe it or not, it’s officially basketball season. The 2015-16 regular season in Shelby County tipped off on Nov. 9 when the Lady Hornets of Chelsea traveled across the county to take on Pelham. Chelsea got the first win of the season, beating Pelham in a low-scoring contest by a final of 39-36.

Michaella Edwards had 15 points for Chelsea while Allie Miller added 14 points as well to lead the way for Chelsea. For Pelham, Jordan Allison scored a game-high 17 points, almost half of her team’s point total, while Jamila Wilson added 12 points as well for the Lady Panthers. Pelham was also leading at the half 20-16 before Chelsea ripped off 23 second half points while holding Pelham to just 10 points in the third and fourth quarters combined.

Chelsea moved to 1-0 on the season with the win and will next face Thompson on Nov. 12 in the Lady Hornets home opener. Pelham plays again tonight against Hueytown as the Lady Panthers try and bounce back from the close opening night loss.
