ALABASTER – When Alabaster School Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers wants honest feedback on the schools’ technology offerings, courses and more, he goes straight to the people who use them the most.
“They are really a great brain trust for us,” Vickers said of his second Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council during a Nov. 11 phone interview. “They give me honest feedback on how they feel, and we use that information as we make decisions as a system.”
This school year’s 30-member Student Advisory Committee, which is comprised of students from all Alabaster schools, held its first meeting on Oct. 30, and was publicly recognized during the Alabaster Board of Education’s Nov. 9 meeting after a reception was held in their honor.
All members of the council were named to the group after they were nominated by their respective school administrators earlier in the year.
Because the students experience the school system’s offerings on a daily basis, Vickers said he appreciates their feedback, especially in the area of technology.
“They have taken technology surveys, and we have already talked about what they would like to see in the schools,” Vickers said. “They are the ones who are in the trenches every day, and they give us good feedback.”
The 30 students have two more meetings scheduled with Vickers after the Christmas holidays: One on Feb. 5 and another on May 6.
The following students are serving on this year’s Student Advisory Committee:
-Creek View Elementary School: Hayden Craycraft, Kimberly Crotes Orozco and Lexi Shannon
