ALABASTER – Thompson High School’s Theatre Department recently set a school record at the Alabama Trumbauer event at Troy University, bringing home more trophies than it ever has from a single competition.

The Theatre Department attended the Alabama Trumbauer, which was held at Troy University and challenges theatre departments to create and perform a production within a time limit, the weekend of Dec. 5-6.

“The kids did so well! Nine students placed, which is the most we have ever had place at State Trumbauer,” THS Director of Theatre Jane Ganey wrote in an email. “I’m so proud of them!”

Out of the 32 events THS competed in, 28 were awarded superior ratings, and four were awarded excellent ratings.

The following individual students earned awards during the competition:

 

Walter Trumbauer State Theatre Competition:
First place: Rogelio Rameriz – Solo Male Contemporary Comedic – Novice
First place: Michael Oglesby – Playwriting – Varsity
First place: Brittany Hodge – Sound Design – Novice
Second place: Alexandra Ditoro – Solo Pantomime – Varsity
Second place: Tori King and Sarah Avery Vise – Duet Contemporary Comedic – Novice
Second place: Mallory Currie – Playwriting – Novice. Currie also was recognized as Judges’ Choice for Reader’s Theatre, during which her play was read at awards ceremony in front of all state competitors.
Third place: Anna Whitlock and Tyler McClellan – Duet Classical Comedic – Varsity
Third place: Kyra Flowers – Stage Management – Varsity

At the Scholarship Auditions on Dec. 3, THS Theatre was also well-represented, earning callbacks from the eight universities in attendance.
