Paul Monroe Hawkins
Paul Monroe Hawkins was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather who loved the Lord. He passed away Friday, Dec. 18, at the age of 83, to be with his heavenly Father, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Paul was born on September 30, 1932 in Haleyville to parents Arthur Allen Hawkins and Ella Kate Burns. After finishing high school, he went to work at the Siluria Cotton Mill as an industrial loom fixer. He married Edna Faye Graves in 1956; they were married 59 years and had four children together.
He loved spending time with his family, gardening which led to his obsession with watching the weather, and Alabama football. Paul denied his daily outdoor afternoon naps, but when asked about them would reply, he was just, “resting in Jesus.” Paul Hawkins told everyone he was a born-again Christian and would share his testimony with everyone who would listen, and even if they wouldn’t listen, he’d tell them anyway. He would always say, “All you need is the blood of Jesus, it covers everything.”
He is survived by his wife, Edna Faye Hawkins; his daughter, Pamela Jeannine H. Cofer; his sons, Timothy Paul Hawkins, Lindon Mark Hawkins, and Steven Matthew Hawkins; his sister, Eren Lanett H. Beasley; brother, Arthur Allen Hawkins, Jr.; and eight grandchildren.
He is preceded in his death by his stepdaughter, Rebecca Faye Warner; his grandson, Randal Scott Hawkins; his brothers, Robert Lois Hawkins, James Thomas Hawkins, and Jasper Emmit Hawkins.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 10-11 a.m. Service will follow at 11 a.m. at Aldrich Assembly of God, 7086 Highway 10, Montevallo. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Elliottsville Presbyterian Church, Alabaster. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the blessed life of Paul Hawkins.
