HELENA–The Helena Huskies boys basketball team has been on a hot streak as of late, and the Alabama Sports Writer’s Association has taken notice of the Huskies’ stellar play.

The latest ASWA ranking has Helena ranked as the No. 8 team in the Class 5A standings.

The Huskies compete in Class 5A Area 7 and currently boast a 6-0 record in area play and a 17-6 record overall.

Helena defeated area foe Jemison 41-18 on Jan. 14 to clinch the top seed in the area and will host the area tournament on Feb. 11.

Helena competed in the UMS-Wright Tournament during the holidays where they defeated St. Paul’s 55-46 to win the tournament championship.

After the tournament win, Helena has won its last five games and will look to continue the streak Friday, Jan. 22 when they take on Fayette County.

The current top ranked team in Class 5A is J.O. Johnson with a record of 18-4.
