COLUMBIANA – A 38-year-old Centerpoint man will spend the next three years on probation and must pay hundreds of dollars in restitution after he pleaded guilty to one felony count of robbery.

Jarin Arturo Chavez, who lists an address on Watertown Circle in Centerpoint, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree robbery during a Jan. 19 hearing in front of Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves.

Through a plea agreement, Chavez’ original first-degree robbery charge was lessened to second-degree robbery.

As a result of Chavez’ guilty plea, Reeves sentenced him to a total of 846 days in prison, followed by three years of supervised probation. Because Chavez received 846 days of jail credit for time he served in the Shelby County Jail between his 2013 arrest and his sentencing date, he began his probation period immediately.

Chavez pleaded guilty to robbing a woman at gunpoint on Aug. 26, 2013, and stealing a cash register, a purse, a Visa debit card, a checkbook, a consular identification card and a wallet.

As a provision of his sentence, Chavez must pay $672 in restitution to the victim, and must avoid initiating any contact with her. He also must take and pass random drug and alcohol screens while he is on probation.
