Thompson boys pick up area win

Michael Freeman collected a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as Thompson beat Tuscaloosa County soundly by a final of 57-29. The Warriors used an 18-6 run that spanned the entire third quarter to jump out to an insurmountable lead. With the win, Thompson advanced to 14-9 (3-3).

 

Pelham falls to Homewood

In a game that was postponed three days due to weather, Pelham played host to 6A Area 9 leader Homewood. The game also came on the heels of Pelham’s weekend trip to Mississippi to take part in the Hotbed Classic. In the Panthers’ return to area play, they could not stay with the Patriots, falling 56-46. Alex Reese had 24 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. The loss dropped Pelham to 14-9 (4-2) with both of its area losses coming at the hands of Homewood.

 

Spain Park throttles Vestavia, will host area tournament

With an easy 61-29 win over Vestavia on Monday, in a game that was pushed back from Friday due to weather, the Jaguars moved to 5-1 in 7A Area 6. That pushed them to a stalemate with Mountain Brook, and the teams had a coin toss on the morning of Jan. 26 to decide who would host the area tournament. Spain Park won the coin toss and will host the area tournament on Feb. 11 and 13.

 

Lady Warriors get revenge on Tuscaloosa County

Thompson had three players finish with a double-double on Monday night as the Lady Warriors avenged their Jan. 12 area loss to Tuscaloosa County. Kahyanne Bolton finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds, Brittany Grice had 15 points and 19 boards and Jordan Lenoir finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds as Thompson won at home by a final of 68-59. 7A No. 10 Thompson moved to 18-6 (3-3) with the win.

 

Spain Park girls beat Vestavia

The Lady Jaguars of Spain Park defeated Vestavia on Jan. 25 by a final of 69-38 to move them to 13-10 (4-2) on the year. Spain Park finished in second place in the 7A Area 6 and will take on Hewitt-Trussville in the first round of the area tournament at Mountain Brook High School on Feb. 9.
