PELHAM— Volunteers with Life Church Pelham are participating in Serve Day this Saturday, Feb. 6 at the H.O.P.E. house in Alabaster.
The old green house, off Simmsville Road across from Aldi, is the future site of H.O.P.E. Missions Outreach Center, which will provide free educational and career training services to adults.
“We just want to be available to our community,” said Life Church Pelham’s Pastor Debra Bishop. “I feel that to love people and say it is one thing and to put actions to it is another.”
About 20 volunteers will work at the house from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., participating in painting, fixing wood fixtures and more. Bishop said they are looking for additional volunteers, such as carpenters, painters, plumbers or electricians.
“We are going to be there this Saturday to start the work,” Bishop said. “To get the house looking good, so it can be something they can be proud of in the community.”
Bishop also said they are looking for donations of items to help remodel the home, such as wood, paint, doors, light fixtures, toilets and a single sink vanity. People can also donate financially to help provide supplies.
H.O.P.E. Missions Outreach was created through the Kids First Awareness 21st Century Learning Center in Alabaster as a way to reach out to adults. Signs on the new build announce the new center will open June 2016.
The center will offer services, such as literacy assistance, fatherhood workshops, job interview skill training, spiritual enrichment study and more.
Bishop said Life Church Pelham participates in all kinds of Serve Days around the community, but she has been closely plugged in with the H.O.P.E. house.
“My thoughts are, I think we are called to reach our community and people need to see that you love them,” Bishop said. “There’s a scripture that says that those that are generous will prosper and those who refresh others will be refreshed.”
