HARPERSVILLE—With glittering streamers dangling from the ceiling and tables adorned with icy blue ribbons, the Harpersville Library looked like a winter wonderland on Saturday, Feb. 20 for the Grandma and Me Frozen Tea Party.

More than 20 children and their grandmothers spent the morning at the library enjoying the Disney movie-themed event, playing games, eating treats and making crafts.

“It was a lot of fun,” Harpersville Library Director Marsha Moore said. “We had a good time doing it.”

Frozen movie character Princess Anna, played by University of Montevallo junior Emily Reed, also attended the tea party and took photos with guests. Reed is in the social work program at Montevallo and said she enjoys working with children.

“I’m really excited because I hope I get to do things like this more often,” Reed said, noting she has to complete 30 hours of community service work for her major. “I have not regretted a single (volunteer opportunity).”

In addition to delicious treats and fun games, the tea party gave children and their grandmothers a chance to be together and make new friends. Children chatted about Frozen and their favorite characters over desserts and crafts.

“I liked when (Princess Anna) used her love powers instead of stopping when Elsa told her to,” tea party guest Phoenix said.

Although the Grandma and Me Frozen Tea Party was the first tea party at the Harpersville Library, it will certainly not be the last, Moore said.

“We want to do a tea party every quarter,” Moore said. “This was our kickoff.”

The Harpersville Library is currently collecting china to use for future tea parties. Moore said she likes the hodgepodge collection, noting the imperfections and chips in the china teach children a valuable lesson.

“All of us have broken pieces, but God loves us all,” Moore said.
