Whether or not March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb it is a month of many commemorations.

The literary world notes the 100th birthday anniversary of renowned children’s author and illustrator Ezra Jack Keats.

He is best known for introducing multiculturalism into typical American children’s literature.

His book The Snowy Day, featuring an African-American main character, was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1963.

Our library has many Keats books and we’ll have a special program to mark his birthday, details are below.

March is Women’s History Month. Books of interest include: Founding Mothers: Remembering the Ladies by Roberts; Rad American Women A-Z by Schatz; and Chasing Freedom: The Life Journeys of Harriet Tubman and Susan B. Anthony by Grimes.

March is also Youth Art Month. Kids can celebrate creativity with: 13 Art Mysteries Children Should Know by Wenzel; Beautiful Hands by Otoshi; and Batman Origami by Montroll.
