Thompson boys move to 6-1
The Warriors continued their strong start to the 2016 campaign on the pitch with a 6-0 win over Tuscaloosa County. The win moved Thompson to 6-1 (1-0) on the season, and they have won those six games by an average of three goals, and Thompson is averaging almost five goals per game in wins so far this season. The Warriors’ next area game will come on March 8 against Hoover, currently the No. 1 team in 7A across the state according to Eurosportscoreboard.com.
Oak Mountain boys come from behind to beat Spain Park
In a game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was moved to Thursday due to weather, Oak Mountain came back from deficits of 0-1 and 1-2 to beat the Jaguars on the road, 3-2. A 0-0 stalemate at the half gave way to five goals in the second, and a Clay Holstad chip gave Oak Mountain the lead for good with three minutes left in regulation. The Eagles moved to 4-0-2 with the win while Spain Park fell to 3-2-2.
Pelham boys tie Mountain Brook
After an up-and-down start to the 2016 campaign, Pelham played 7A Mountain Brook to a 1-1 tie. Irvin Rodriguez set up Adrian Arceo for Pelham’s only goal in the game in the 16th minute, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead early. The Spartans tied the game later in the second half in the 58th minute, and Pelham moved to 5-4-1 with the tie.
Chelsea girls fall to Vestavia
The Lady Hornets from Chelsea dropped to 4-3-0 on the season with a 4-0 loss at Vestavia Hills on Thursday. The three losses Chelsea, the current 6A No. 2 team in the state via Eurosportscoreboard.com, have come against Oak Mountain, Vestavia and Hoover, the Nos. 1, 3 and 6 teams in the state in 7A. The Lady Hornets have a rematch with Oak Mountain set for March 3.
