CHELSEA – A two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 280 in the Chelsea area on the afternoon of Feb. 29 has left three people injured and one westbound lane of the highway shut down.

The crash happened at 3:53 p.m. at Boardman Drive in the Narrows area in Chelsea, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Debbie Sumrall said.

Three people involved in the crash were transported via ambulance for treatment. One person was severely injured, Sumrall said.

One westbound lane on U.S. 280 between Boardman Drive and Shelby County 43 was still shut down as of 4:30 p.m. Feb. 29 as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

“There is still one (westbound) lane open,” Sumrall said. “Just use caution in the area while emergency personnel are still out and about.”

The closed westbound lane likely won’t re-open for another half-hour, Sumrall said, adding motorists could take an alternate route to avoid traffic delays on U.S. 280.
