HOOVER—There’s a new, but familiar face at the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce. Sylinda Daniel has joined the chamber team as a senior account executive.

Daniel was involved with the Hoover Chamber as a member before joining the staff. She was recognized as the 2015 Chamber Member of the Year for her work with the chamber’s first Business Expo and Job Fair and the 2015 Forks and Corks Gala.

Daniel brings 16 years of experience in social sciences and administration to the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce, and as a self-described “tech geek,” she said she hopes to revamp the chamber’s technology side.

“We’re going to bring the chamber into the technology age,” Daniel said during a March 3 chamber economic development forum.

The chamber’s regular emails and newsletters will soon have a more user-friendly and mobile phone-friendly format. Daniel said she’s also looking to update the website and implement new membership software that will allow the chamber to better analyze member participation and interest in programs.

“I’m always a believer in working smarter, not harder,” Daniel said.

The Hoover community can also expect to see more educational programs offered by the chamber, including small business training workshops.

Daniel has led several seminars on interviewing and building resumes, and on May 17, she’ll lead a free seminar about interview skills at the Hoover Public Library.

“I’ve always been in some form of mid-level management, so I’ve seen it all,” Daniel said.

Daniel said she is also open to bringing job-preparedness programs to the area schools, to teach students proper behavior for an interview and how to construct a strong resume.

“That’s your handshake, that’s your first impression,” Daniel said of resumes.

Daniel said she is open to input about how to make the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce stronger.

“I want to hear your take,” Daniel said. “What can we do better?”
