ALABASTER – A 20-year-old Vandiver woman is facing a felony child endangerment charge after she and her baby allegedly tested positive for marijuana at Alabaster’s Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
The Alabaster Police Department arrested Courtney Marie Isbell, who lists an address on Shelby County 50 in Vandiver, on Feb. 17 and charged her with one felony count of chemical endangerment of a child.
Isbell’s arrest came after she and her newborn baby allegedly tested positive for marijuana at Shelby Baptist on Sept. 3, 2015. After the drug test results were shared with the Shelby County Department of Human Resources, DHR investigated the matter before turning it over to the Alabaster Police Department, said APD Lt. Grant Humphries.
Chemical endangerment of a child is a Class C felony, and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
Isbell was released from the Shelby County Jail on a $5,000 bond the same day she was arrested, and is now scheduled to appear in Shelby County District Court for a preliminary hearing on March 16.
