FROM STAFF REPORTS

AUBURN – The Briarwood Christian girls tennis team has not played a regular season match yet, due to rain outs, but they got to catch up by playing plenty of matches this weekend including a seldom-used Tournament Super Tie Breaker and defeated 7A powerhouse McGill-Toolen from Mobile.  The Briarwood girls won the Auburn High School Invitational Tournament this past weekend at Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn.

After regulation play in the tournament, BCS was tied with McGill-Toolen at 41 points each.  It required a tiebreaker to settle the tournament championship, BCS won that tiebreaker 2-1, as singles counts one and six, and second court doubles hashed it out in a 10-point tie breaker on each court.  Jud Tarence won court one, and Laura Herren won court six to claim the prize.

The Briarwood boys finished third behind McGill-Toolen and Hewett Trussville as well.

Briarwood, McGill-Toolen, Hewett Trussville, Sylacauga, Muscle Shoals, Northridge, Auburn and Hartselle all played in the tournament.
