Man arrested on multiple drug charges

COLUMBIANA – A 27-year-old man was arrested March 7 in Columbiana on multiple drug-related charges.

Columbiana police officers arrested Andrew Montrell Nelms and charged him with first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of controlled substances, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding traffic court warrant, according to a press release from the Columbiana Police Department.

Officers arrested Nelms, who lists addresses in Columbiana and Tennessee, based on information from an illegal drug investigation.

During the arrest, officers seized 85 grams of marijuana, prescription narcotics, drug paraphernalia and a vehicle, the release read.

Another person was present and is being questioned, but no charges have been brought against this person.

Nelms is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $66,000.

“The Columbiana Police Department is striving to investigate drug crimes and make the appropriate arrests,” Columbiana Police Chief Lamar Vick wrote on March 7. “We’re trying to make this city a safe place to live in, do business in, and to raise a family in. We appreciate the cooperation of those that have and continue to give us information about illegal activities. We also thank the citizens for their support.”
