Spain Park falls to Vestavia

Spain Park fell to Vestavia by a tight 1-0 decision, moving the Jaguars to 5-4-2. Of the four losses Spain Park has suffered, three have come by a single goal. The Jaguars are currently ranked as the No. 6 team in 7A while Vestavia is ranked as the No. 4 team.

 

Thompson boys fall on pitch to Cullman

After starting the season strong at 6-1, the Thompson Warriors have fallen on hard times on the soccer pitch. In their last five games, the Warriors are 1-4, with their only win coming over Spain Park on March 4. Thompson’s most recent loss came to Cullman on March 10 by a final of 3-0. In the last five matches, the Warriors have managed to score just three goals after scoring 27 goals in their first seven.

 

 

March 11

Lady Warriors handle Homewood

Thompson, currently the No. 8 girls team in class 7A, beat Homewood on Friday by a 4-0 final to move to 6-3-3 on the year. After starting the season 0-1-2, Thompson has won six of its last nine games, and the two losses the Lady Warriors have suffered during that time, namely to Spain Park and Hoover, have both come by just a single goal.

 

Briarwood handles Chelsea

The Lions from Briarwood scored twice in the first half and added another goal in the second to get a 3-0 win in area play over Chelsea. The loss dropped Chelsea to 0-2 in area play, while Briarwood moved to 8-2-2 (1-0) with the win. Briarwood’s next area matchup is with Pelham on March 24.

 

Lady Hornets easily beat Briarwood

Lexie Duca (two goals, one assist), Claire Guillen (one goal), Haley Greene (one goal, two assists), Madeline Guillen (one goal, two assists) all scored for Chelsea as the Lady Hornets moved to 7-4-0 (2-0) in 6A Area 10 play with an easy 6-0 win over Briarwood on Friday night.

 

Pelham beats No. 1 Cullman

Pelham has not lost since Feb. 16, when Hoover beat the Panthers soundly by a 6-1 final. Since that last loss, Pelham is 4-0-2, with the most recent win coming in a 3-2 win over 6A No. 1 Cullman. The win snapped the Bearcats’ eight-game win streak. After trailing 1-0 at the half, Pelham fell behind 2-0 early in the second half before the offense found momentum. Irvin Rodriguez scored first for Pelham, which was followed by a Brian Saavedra penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2. Yunior Tejada later converted the Panthers’ second penalty kick opportunity to put Pelham up 3-2, and the Panthers held on for the big win to move to 7-4-2.

 

 

March 12

Oak Mountain travels to Georgia, picks up win

Hunter Holstad punched a goal into the back of the net in the first half of Oak Mountain’s Saturday game against Brookwood (Ga.), which was enough to get the win. The win was the Eagles’ seventh straight, and moved Oak Mountain to 10-0-2.

 

Lady Eagles beat Brookwood

Hailey Whitaker, Lucy Thrasher and Kendall Maynard all scored goals for Oak Mountain as the Lady Eagles traveled to Georgia to take on Brookwood (Ga.) as the Lady Eagles got a 3-0 win and moved to 9-1-1.
