Chelsea drops two to Pell City

PELL CITY – The Chelsea baseball Hornets saw their struggles continue on March 25, as they traveled to take on area opponent Pell City in a pair of games, and were turned a way with a pair of losses by scores of 6-0 and 10-9 to fall to 9-15 on the season.

 

Game 1. Pell City 6 – Chelsea 0

Chase Robinson threw seven scoreless innings for Pell City in the first game of the day, throwing just 79 pitches, giving up two hits and no runs while striking out seven. Pell City scored two runs in the first and third innings, while also plating a run in the second and fifth innings to get the win.

Joel Cheatwood started the game on the mound for Chelsea, throwing four innings while giving up seven hits and six runs, although just two of them were earned, before Riley Watkins came in to finish the game. Jake Harkins and Chas Cary were responsible for Chelsea’s two hits in the game.

 

Pell City 10 – Chelsea 9

The second game of the day was much more entertaining than the first, but ultimately ended with the same result, as the home team score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete a seven-run comeback over the final four innings of the game and get the tight win.

After Chelsea and Pell City both scored three runs in the first inning, the Hornets added a run in the third before adding four more in the fourth to take an 8-3 lead into the bottom of the fourth. However Pell City added three runs in the bottom of the fourth and one run in the bottom of the fifth to pull back to just one run down at 8-7. After a scoreless sixth inning, Chelsea added a security run in the top of the seventh when Cheatwood hit a leadoff triple and was promptly brought home when AJ Jones singled to left to take a 9-7 lead. However, Chelsea could not hold on, as Pell City knocked three runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win.

Chelsea used Harkins, Josh Gregg, Brendon Case and Connor Burnett on the mound in the second game. Harkins and Watkins both had two hits in the second game to lead Chelsea as well.
