ALABASTER – A 34-year-old Alabaster man is facing a trio of felonies after police said he allegedly violated protection from abuse orders on multiple occasions earlier this year.
The Alabaster Police Department arrested Garth Adams Haley, who lists an address on Kent Dairy Road in Alabaster, on March 29 and charged him with two felony counts of aggravated stalking and one felony count of second-degree burglary.
The charges came after Haley allegedly violated a previous court-issued protection from abuse order against him.
In December 2015, a victim petitioned Shelby County Civil Court to issue a protection from abuse order against Haley after Haley allegedly stalked and threatened the victim.
According to the petition, Haley allegedly “made the plaintiff afraid that the plaintiff would be seriously injured,” “trespassed on the plaintiff’s property” and “stalked the plaintiff.”
The victim claimed Haley “would not leave when asked,” and said Haley “continues to contact me when asked not to, continues to show up at my house when asked not to.” Haley allegedly has damaged the victim’s property, according to the petition.
On the same day the victim petitioned the court for a protection from abuse order, the judge issued the order against Haley. The order required Haley to refrain from contacting the victim, and ordered him to stay at least 1,000 feet from the victim’s home.
According to Haley’s arrest warrants, he allegedly violated the protection from abuse order multiple times.
His warrants claim he violated the order between Feb. 2-18, and again on March 29. During the March 29 incident, Haley allegedly entered the victim’s house while the victim was inside, leading to the second-degree burglary charge.
Second-degree burglary is a Class B felony, and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison upon conviction. Aggravated stalking is a Class C felony, according to Alabama law, and carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Haley was released from the Shelby County Jail the same day he was arrested after posting bonds totaling $30,000.
