Harpersville celebrates Shirley Middleton Day

HARPERSVILLE—Harpersville recognized March 25 as Shirley Middleton Day. Middleton was a respected community figure and a longtime member of the Harpersville Town Council.

Family members, local businesses and Harpersville residents attended a March 25 ceremony that included singing, a poem, sharing memories and planting a tree in Middleton’s honor.

The Harpersville Town Council approved a resolution declaring March 25 Shirley Middleton Day on Oct. 24, 2015. The town will continue to recognize March 25, also Middleton’s birthday, as Shirley Middleton Day and “will always host a day of service in memory of her for the betterment of our community,” a news release from the town of Harpersville read.
