Joint Relay For Life event coming to Shelby County

Municipalities in Shelby County are hosting a joint Relay For Life event May 20 at the Columbiana Sports Complex, benefitting the American Cancer Society.

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight and will include a Survivors’ Walk, candle-lighting ceremony and a closing ceremony. Other highlights include food, games and live entertainment.

The walk is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Luminaries, a special candle-lighting ceremony to celebrate the lives of those who have lost their battle with cancer, will be at 10 p.m. and the closing ceremony will begin at 11:45 p.m.

“This year, all residents of Shelby County will unite for one cause,” said Melissa Pockman, community manager for the American Cancer Society. “We are excited to stand together in the fight against cancer and to remember those who fought the good fight, but are no longer here with us.”

She said they look forward to seeing everyone come out to fundraise, to celebrate and to remember.
