HELENA–In response to a tragedy that resulted in the death of 33-year-old Helena resident Holly Myrick on the afternoon of Monday, May 2, Myrick’s former place of employment and the Helena community are rallying to help the family with expenses.

The Helena Police Department responded to a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred near Golden Rule Barbeque in the 4200 block of Helena Parkway at approximately 1:45 p.m. on May 2.

Helena Fire Medics immediately began efforts to stabilize and transport the victim to the hospital via Lifesaver helicopter, but Myrick died at the scene.

To help the family with burial expenses for Myrick and ongoing expenses for her daughters, there will be a variety of ways for the community to support the Myrick family.

An account has been setup with America’s First Credit Union to accept donations and at Helena First Friday on Friday, May 6, a donation table will be setup for those wishing to donate funds.

Myrick’s place of employment, Golden Rule Barbeque in Helena, will begin accepting donations for the family, and the restaurant has designated Monday, May 9, in Myrick’s memory.

Approximately one hour after the accident on May 2, Helena police officers assisted Alabaster officers in the search for the suspect while the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force initiated an investigation on the scene.

At approximately 3 p.m., an Alabaster police officer located the suspect, 28-year-old Bessemer resident Damian Lamar Jackson, and the vehicle in a driveway in Alabaster and immediately took him into custody.
