CHELSEA – Nearly 746 students at Forest Oaks Elementary School took a break from classroom work May 6 to participate in a variety of outdoor Field Day activities.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade rotated through different stations including Beach Ball Relay, Shoe-er Fun Relay, Dizzy Bat Relay, 40-Yard Dash Relay, Bean Bag Toss, Over/Under Relay and Hula Hoop Relay and a Spoon and Golf Ball Relay.

“Everybody loves the 40-yard dash,” FOES Physical Education teacher Sandra Evers said. “That is the big event where you get bragging rights for a year.”

Thirty fifth graders who had shown leadership skills in their P.E. class were chosen to serve as peer helpers to help run the stations during the kindergarten through second grade Field Day session.

All students also had a chance to play on inflatables when they weren’t competing.

Evers noted the moderate weather was conducive to an enjoyable day for everyone, and numerous PTO members and parent volunteers ensured the activities ran smoothly in each session.

“Out of all my years, we have never had more perfect weather,” Evers said. “It’s a great day. The kids love it, and they tend to talk about it all year long.”
