Alabaster AEA awards $5,000 to students, teachers

ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Education Association significantly expanded its scholarships to local students and teachers this year, and awarded several thousand dollars during a May 10 banquet.

During the banquet, which was held in the Thompson High School lunchroom, the ACEA announced the students and teachers who won the organization’s scholarships. The ACEA is the local branch of the Alabama Education Association group.

Each year, the ACEA awards scholarships to teachers who are members of the organization and who are planning to use the scholarships to continue their education or seek higher certification.

Student scholarships are open to high school seniors who are children of ACEA members, and winners are chosen based on an essay contest.

The ACEA presented scholarships in the following amounts to these teachers:

 

$1000 – Angela McKnight, assistant principal at Thompson High School

$500 – Jessica Pannell, math teacher at Thompson Middle School

$500 – Stephanie Reynolds, teacher at Meadow View Elementary School

$500 – Lynda Glass, teacher at Meadow View Elementary School

$500 – Ashley Williamson, teacher at Creek View Elementary School

$500 – Amy Thames, teacher at Creek View Elementary School

The ACEA also presented scholarships to the following students:

$1000 – Kasey Miranda, daughter of Kim Miranda, who is a teacher at Thompson Middle School

$500 – Lydia Clarke, daughter of Susan Clarke, who is a teacher at Meadow View Elementary School
