Shelby man arrested on first-degree rape charges

A Shelby man was arrested May 19 and charged with three counts of first-degree rape.

Charles Marvin Grier, 52, who lists an address in the 30 block of Clear Springs Way in Shelby, allegedly “engaged in sexual intercourse with (a victim) of the opposite sex by forcible compulsion” between October 2014 and March 2016, according to court documents.

Grier is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $180,000 bond, and is to have no contact with the victim.

A preliminary hearing for Grier is set for June 23 at 8:30 a.m.

First-degree rape is a Class A felony. If convicted, Grier could face up to life in prison.
