MONTEVALLO – Montevallo High School will be hosting former college football coach Ron Sigler on June 7, who is a Head Football Scout/Educational Speaker on behalf of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Athletic Recruiting. The presentation, called “College Recruiting Simplified” is constructed to help guide parents and student-athletes through the importance of establishing athletic and academic goals, setting realistic expectations and seeking opportunities at all college and division levels, per Montevallo head coach Brandon Wilcox.

“I am excited for our folks to be able to get to hear someone of the caliber of Coach Sigler speak on things that are going to help our young people take the next step,” Wilcox said in respect to Sigler’s presentation.

Sigler, a Mobile native who was a standout at McGill-Toolen High School, played college football at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has spent time as a college coach with both UAB and Tennessee Tech as well, and spent 11 seasons as the offensive coordinator for Midfield High School in Birmingham.

Topics in the presentation will include the benefits of playing college sports, reading between the lines of college coach communications, when the recruiting process starts, how to get discovered, how coaches evaluate prospects, how to set realistic expectations and high school and club coaches’ roles.

“I think it is important for our parents, athletes and really everyone to be informed on the recruiting process and what we can do to help aid our players in getting them a college scholarship,” Wilcox added. “Our goal as an athletics program at Montevallo is really three things: Graduate character men and women, get players signed and win championships.”

Sigler is well traveled and give his seminar all over the South, traveling to prep hotspots like Atlanta and Tampa Bay regularly.

The seminar will take place at 6 p.m. on June 7 at Montevallo High School. The seminar is free to all students and their families.
