ALABASTER – Although they just got out of school for the summer, the members of Alabaster’s Teen Council aren’t taking a break.

Over the past few weeks, the Teen Council, which is composed of 21 members selected through an application process with the Alabaster mayor’s office, has been working to organize its second-annual teen movie nights.

“We met last week to work everything out and figure out which movies we wanted to show,” Teen Council member Noah Tanner said during a June 7 interview.

As a result of the council’s work, local teens will be able to enjoy outdoor movies several Tuesdays throughout the summer.

While last year’s Teen Council held the summer movies at Veterans Park, Tanner said this summer’s movies will be held at Thompson High School’s Larry Simmons Stadium near the intersection of Alabama 119 and Thompson Road.

“Last year, a lot of people got wet sitting on the grass, so we decided to move it to turf this year,” Tanner said, referencing the stadium’s synthetic turf field. “We felt that would be an advantage for the crowd.”

During the events, the city will set up its large inflatable screen on the stadium’s field, and attendees are welcome to bring chairs and blankets to watch the films.

Drinks and snacks are welcome, and a concession stand will be available. Alcohol and tobacco products are not allowed.

Each movie will start at sundown, which will be around 8 p.m.

The Teen Council will show the following movies on the following dates:

-Tuesday, June 14: “The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2”

-Tuesday, June 28: “Insidious, Chapter 3”

-Tuesday, July 12: “Ride Along 2”

-Tuesday, July 26: “Ant Man”

-Tuesday, Aug. 9: “Mean Girls”
