ALABASTER – Scott Brakefield, the incumbent Ward 6 Alabaster City Councilman and current council president, has announced he plans to re-run for the seat, citing a desire to continue the city’s economic growth.

Brakefield has served on the council since 2008, and said he plans to qualify for re-election once the qualifying period begins on July 5.

“It has truly been a privilege to serve the residents of Ward 6 during the past eight years. It is my wish to see the progress continue,” he said.

Brakefield said he was proud to play a role in creating the Alabaster City School System, and said he would like to work over the next several years to continue the economic growth the city is experiencing.

“As a key advocate for the creation of the Alabaster City School System, it is my desire to continue to work to ensure the School System is extremely successful,” Brakefield said. “The success of Alabaster City Schools will be a huge economic driver for the city over the years to come.

“We have made tremendous strides recruiting economic development to the city,” he added. “I want to continue to work with the mayor, city manager and the Industrial Development Board to recruit development that not only improves quality of life, but also brings jobs to our community.”

Brakefield said if elected, he will work to ensure the city “grows responsibly,” and said he would like to work to bring high-speed Internet access to the entire city.

“It is 2016, and many of us rely on high-speed Internet for home offices, school work, etc.” Brakefield said. “We need to work to make sure that this basic service is provided throughout the city.”

He also said he will work to continue efforts to widen Alabama 119 south of Fulton Springs Road, and will work with the Alabama Department of Transportation to widen Interstate 65 from Pelham to Alabaster.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed serving the citizens of Alabaster over the past eight years,” he said. “It is my hope I get to continue to serve.”
