MONTEVALLO–The city of Montevallo is honored to be a part of the Alabama Operation LifeSaver 40-City Rail Safety Tour.

Montevallo will host a safety presentation for city employees on Tuesday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. with a press conference to follow at 11 a.m.

Montevallo Mayor Hollie Cost, Chief of Police Jeremy Littleton and Fire Marshal Brandon Broadhead will briefly discuss the importance of rail safety for Montevallo citizens and their appreciation for the work of Alabama Operation Lifesaver.

Nancy Hudson, executive director of Alabama Operation Lifesaver, will also be in attendance to provide safety information to attendees.

Alabama Operation Lifesaver, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public safety program dedicated to reducing deaths and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and along railroad rights-of-way.

AL OL was established in 1976 and is a member of the national organization, Operation Lifesaver, Inc. The program strives to improve driver and pedestrian behavior at railroad crossings by encouraging compliance with traffic laws relating to crossing signs and signals.

In addition to its education program, AL OL encourages the enforcement of existing traffic and trespassing laws. AL OL also supports engineering improvements including the installation and upgrading of crossing signs, signals and gates.

Over the past 40 years, AL OL has worked diligently to educate communities, drivers and students about being safe at grade crossings and near railroad tracks to prevent incidents and to save lives.  In honor of their 40th Anniversary, AL OL is participating in a 40-City Rail Safety Tour to increase public awareness.
