Music on Main: Music on Main featuring Uptown Rounders (trio bluegrass and Texas swing) will be held Friday, July 8, at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Columbiana.

Mt Laurel All Ages Storytime: Stories, music and more will be offered for every member of the family July 1 from 11-11:30 a.m. at the Mt Laurel Library.


 

July 5

Mt Laurel Family Movie: All ages are welcome at the Mt Laurel Family Movie at the Mt Laurel Library July 5 from 2-4 p.m. A showing of a movie will be held each Tuesday. Snacks will be served. Contact the library at 991-1660 to find out which movie is showing.


 

July 7

Book Character Olympics: Try sports from different books and see how you stack up against the great characters at the Book Character Olympics at Mt Laurel on July 7 from 2-3 p.m. at the fields by the playground. Registration is required. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Mt Laurel Library.

Taste Test Challenge: Can you tell the difference between name brand and store brand? Can you name the flavor of Pop-Tarts? Lots of tasty snacks will be included. The event is July 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the North Shelby Library and is planned by the Teen Leadership Council.


 

July 8

Helena Movies in the Park: Helena Movies in the Park will feature “Despicable Me 2” on Friday, July 8, at the Helena Amphitheater. The concession stand opens at 6:30 p.m., and the movie begins around 8 p.m. No outside food or drinks allowed.

Movie Night: Get out of the house and relax with a movie at the North Shelby Library July 8 from 7-9 p.m. Bring friends, and the library will provide the refreshments. Call 439-5509 or stop by the library to see what movie is playing.


 

July 9

Minecraft Library Wars: North Shelby versus Vestavia will be held July 9 from 1-3 p.m. at the North Shelby Library. Join to defend the library as the group of teens that can battle off their challengers and collect the most resources is determined. Registration is required.


 

July 12

Aspire Youth Leadership Conference: Alabama high school students looking to strengthen their leadership skills and agricultural knowledge will participate in the Aspire Youth Leadership Conference on July 12-14 in Columbiana. Hoop for Fitness: Learn cool hula hoop moves and tricks to build coordination, flexibility, balance and boost cardiovascular endurance July 14 from 6-7 p.m. It is exercise that does not feel like exercise. Fun hoop games and a professional performance will leave the audience wanting to move more. Hoops of appropriate size and weight are provided for use during the session. Pelhampalooza: Pelhampalooza will be held Saturday, July 16, at the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. and wraps up with a free Just Show Up Show at Oak Mountain Amphitheater. Outdoor activities include a free bungee trampoline, shaved ice and more. Shelby County Shindig BBQ: The Shelby County Shindig BBQ and music festival will be Saturday, July 16, from 1-7 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit the Shelby County Arts Council and the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce. Barbecue tasting tickets are $10. Music lineup includes the Sassy Brown duo, Janelle Frost duo, Elijah Butler duo, 2Blu and the Lucky Stiffs and Davis Coen. Becoming a Better Writer: Karin B. Hoyle, recipient of the Literary Classics Seal of Approval and the winner of the Silver Book Award for YA Science Fiction (2015), will present on various points July 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at the North Shelby Library.

Mt Laurel Paint & Pour: Create a piece of art with the help of a professional at the Mt Laurel Library on July 19 from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $5 for materials. Registration is required.

July 23

Mt Laurel Lego Club: The Mt Laurel Library provides the Legos, the kids provide the imagination and creativity July 23. Families are welcome to drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to build spectacular creations, which will be displayed in the library.


 

July 24

Teen Summer Reading Movie: The North Shelby Library will provide admission for teens (entering sixth through 12th grade and registered for summer reading) for a showing of Star Trek Beyond at the Lee Branch Carmike theater July 24 from 6-9 p.m. Parents and siblings are welcome to attend for $10.50 each. Participants must register in person in the teen department between May 23 and 4 p.m. July 23. Payment for non-teens is due at registration. Color Therapy for Adults: When is the last time you colored for fun? Coloring books published for adults is a popular trend that has many emotional and creative benefits. Disconnect from your busy day and just color it out. We provide the pages, colored pencils, wine and relaxation. Color Therapy for Adults will be held July 26 from 6-8 p.m. at the North Shelby Library.

Seasonal photography hike: A seasonal photography hike will be held July 30 from 9-11 a.m. at Oak Mountain State Park. Bring your camera for a great hike in the woods to capture whatever we might see through the camera lens. Meet at the Park Office on Terrace Drive. Location of hike will be determined upon arrival.
