HELENA–Families and friends gathered at the Helena High School football stadium on Saturday. June 25, to take part in a family fun track meet, which offered a variety of events and competitions for all ages.

The family fun track meet was the conclusion of a two-day youth track and field camp June 23-24 where participants in grades K-8 learned the fundamentals of track and field during fun activities.

During the two-day camp, participants sharpened their skills by competing in speed and agility drills with cones, speed ladders and more.

Other events at the camp included a hurdles station that involved jumping over noodles, tossing a Frisbee through a hula hoop, throwing water gun cannons like javelins and tossing quarters into rows of bowls.

Once the summer camp was finished, participants then got to put their skills to the test at the family fun track meet where runners participated in various events that included the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter and 1600-meter individual races as well as a 4×100 meter relay or a 4×400 meter relay.

Numerous runners were given medals and awards that finished as the winners in each event. The runners were grouped in categories based on age and gender.

Each race cost either $5 or $10 to enter and all of the proceeds from the family fun track meet and youth summer camp helped fund the HHS track and field program.
