Billy Gene McCormick

Billy Gene McCormick, age 69, passed away Saturday, June 25.

He was born Feb. 13, 1947 in Macomb, Ill., to Billie F. McCormick and Ollie Anna Adams McCormick. He served 22 years active duty US Navy in Special Forces (Seabees) and served three deployments to Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking (especially breads and noodles), cheering on Duke University basketball team and reading a vast variety of books. He loved to tease, joke and have a good laugh. This is what made up this wonderful man known as Billy, Butch, Paw Paw, Lug Nut & Pops.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Jonathan Michael McCormick.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patricia Cline McCormick; children, Michael Mc Cormick, Marty McCormick (Janet), Billy Gene McCormick Jr., Tammy Scurlock (David), Felston Seals, Tim Seals (Laura) and Kim Seals (Wayne); 15 grandchildren, including his “Moon Pie”; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Connie Smith (Herb) and Kay Fletcher (Jim); and his best friend/almost brother, Ed “Bubba” Booth.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28 from 6-8 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), followed by the graveside service at 2 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. Pastor Jeff Holsomback, Montevallo Church of God, and Pastor Ken Stroup, Alabaster Church of God, will officiate.
