Ballantrae holds Club Championship

PELHAM – Ballantrae Golf Club recently held its annual Club Championship from June 25-26, and a number of members posted very competitive scores. Trey Rosdick won the Championship Flight with a score of 143 and was declared the Men’s Champion, Tom Bullington won the Senior Flight with a score of 144 and was declared the Men’s Senior Champion and Debbie Atchley won the Ladies Flight with a score of 159 to wrap up the Ladies Championship as well.
Rosdick placed first in the Championship flight after shooting a 69 on the first day and a 74 on the second day to finish with a tournament-best 143, easily outstripping both Alex Davis and Jim Hess, who finished with two-day totals of 152. Bullington placed first in the overall gross scoring of senior golfers after shooting consistent scores of 71 and 73 for a 144. Ed Bullock and James Moore placed second and third respectively in the gross scoring for seniors with scores of 154 and 155.
Wayne McKnight placed first in net scoring among seniors, shooting a 130 over the two-day period, while John Olson placed second with a 133 and Ron Brown placed third with a 137.
Net scoring in golf is determined by subtracting the player’s handicap from the gross score, which is the number of strokes actually taken.
In the First Flight, David Handbury shot an 80 on the first day and a 74 on the second day to finish with a 154 while Johnny Burke came in with a 163 to finish first and second in gross score. Mike Joiner shot a 139 net score while Dennis Smith shot a 147, as the two placed first and second among net scorers in the First Flight.
Atchley won the Ladies Flight going away, easily outstripping second-place finisher Susan McDaniel by 27 strokes.
