FROM STAFF REPORTS

PELHAM— In response to the recent shootings around the country, Pelham Police Chief Larry Palmer released a statement on Facebook thanking citizens for their gestures of support.

“As our country experiences such difficult, turbulent, confusing times, I want to express my sincere appreciation to the citizens of Pelham,” Palmer wrote. “My department and I have been overwhelmed by your kind words of gratitude and sincere gestures of appreciation.”

Additional posts on the police department’s Facebook page show several residents thanking officers both verbally and by dropping off pizza, desserts and sweet treats for the officers on duty.

Palmer said the Pelham Police Department will always remain professional and vigilant in safeguarding the citizens’ well-being.

“As a sworn police officer, I took this job to make a difference in my community and every man and woman in my department has done the same,” Palmer continued. “We knew it would not be an easy task, but working together with our community we will succeed.”

As the chief of police, Palmer said he has encouraged his officers to be aware of their surroundings, to watch each other’s backs and to always make a positive difference. He also said he urges them to spend quality time with their family and loved ones.

“I encourage you to do the same,” Palmer wrote. “Hold fast to those you love and always be kind to one another. It’s very important.”
