Sylvia E. Shell, age 91, of Helena, formerly of Aliceville, passed away Saturday, July 9 at Chandler Health & Rehab in Alabaster.

Mrs. Shell was born Sept. 19, 1924 in Blount County to the late Tillie Ashworth and Gordie Malone Ashworth.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 12 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Helena with Rev. Dr. Greg Walker and Rev. Morgan Bailey officiating. Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery in Jay, Fla. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Rev. J.C. Shell; her parents; and two sisters, Earline Shell and Sue duPont.

Survivors include her sons, Michael Shell (Sandra) of Helena, Gary Shell (Nevalene) of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Ronnie Shell of Enterprise; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Jennifer, Chris, Timothy, Matthew, Kimberly and Amanda; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Alzheimer’s and Brain Research Center, ALZ.org.
