“I want to send a clear message that Montevallo is open for business,” Walker said. “I will work with existing businesses to ensure they have access to the resources they need to be successful. I will work to recruit new commerce to the city that will fill storefronts and provide goods, services and jobs to Montevallo.”

Walker has experience in economic and workforce development, serving the state as planning and economic development specialist. Walker’s career also includes service in education, nonprofits and local government. He has written numerous successful grants, providing funding for workforce and economic development, educational programming and recreational facilities. Walker currently works as grant coordinator at the University of Montevallo.

Walker is a 1998 graduate of Montevallo High School and a 2002 graduate of the University of Montevallo. He also has a masters in public administration from Troy University Montgomery. Supporting education in Montevallo is one of Walker’s priorities.

“The schools in Montevallo gave me an excellent education and a foundation for the successes in my career,” Walker said. “I want to ensure that they are adequately funded and that teachers have access to resources needed to provide the best education possible for children in this community.”

Walker is the son of American Village founder and Executive Director Tom Walker and retired University of Montevallo Child Study Center Director Betty Walker. He states that the values they taught him influenced his decision to seek office.

“My parents taught me the values of service and making a difference in your community,” Walker said. “This city has given me so much in my life – an excellent education and lifelong friendships. It’s time for me to give back.”

“I love this city,” he said. “Montevallo may have its share of problems, but it also has a lot to offer. I want to serve the citizens of Montevallo to foster a vibrant, thriving community.”

Montevallo’s city election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 23, in the Orr Park Building at 420 Vine Street.
