Helena Kiwanis Club offering several August speakers

HELENA–The Helena Kiwanis Club and Program Chair Gerald Waldrop has announced a number of interesting programs featuring a variety of guest speakers throughout the month of August.

The Helena Kiwanis Club meets each Tuesday in the senior building located behind Helena City Hall at 7 a.m. Breakfast is included with each program.

The following programs will be offered each Tuesday in August, and anyone interested is encouraged to attend:

  • Aug. 9: Helena Candidates Forum: Every candidate seeking election in a contested seat on the Helena City Council has accepted the invitation to take part in this Forum. Those speaking will be Alice Lobell and Chris Nelson (I) for Place 3 and Tangee Edwards and Laura Joseph for Place 4.
  • Aug. 16: Matt Fridy: Alabama State House of Rep. for District will address the Helena Kiwanis Club.
  • Aug. 23: Assistant Editor and Marketing Director for Lindy’s Sports Magazines Lyn Scarbrough will address the club. Scarbrough has spoken to the club each August for more than 10 years.
  • Aug. 30: Helena High School head football coach Watt Parker will address the club and preview the upcoming football season.

The Kiwanis Club of Helena is a group of individuals dedicated to serving the community by concentrating on service projects that benefit children and youth of Helena. Prospective members are always welcome.
