Complete your day by participating in the Historical Cemetery Walking Tour from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Columbiana City Cemetery.

The Columbiana trolley will be on hand to provide transportation to and from the antiques show and the quilt walk. That evening, the trolley will pick up cemetery tour participants at the Columbiana Senior Center and transport them to the cemetery.

The Novella Club event will take place at the Shelby County Exhibition Center located on County Road 70 next to the School of Technology. The show will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Each year the show attracts more vendors. Pam Johnson, Novella Club President, anticipates that this year’s show will feature over 50 vendors, with a wide offering of antiques, arts and crafts.

Lunch items including chicken salad, hamburgers, hotdogs and delicious baked goods will be for sale. Admission is free.

Johnson said that the proceeds raised are used for scholarship money and for grants to Elvin Hill Elementary, Columbiana Middle School and Shelby County High School. Proceeds are also used for a The Novella Club Cancer Survivor Dinner and to provide personalized blankets for patients at Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The Friends of the Columbiana Public Library Quilt Walk will take place from noon to 5 p.m. and will feature 50 to 60 handmade quilts displayed at historical buildings and homes in the downtown Columbiana area. Patterns for the quilts will be available at each stop on the walk.

Tickets for the quilt walk are $10 and can be purchased beginning in October at Busy Hands Gallery, Shelby County Arts Council, Columbiana Public Library, and the Shelby County Museum and Archives.

Peggy Wood, president of Friends of the Columbiana Public Library, said that proceeds from the quilt walk are used for library programs and to buy items such as books and shelving for the library.

That evening, the Shelby County Museum and Archives will present its first Historic Cemetery Walking Tour at the Columbiana City Cemetery from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Participants will enjoy a lantern-lit tour, with a guide that will take them to graves of people interred at the cemetery. Actors will then provide a glimpse into the life of the deceased. Expect to hear intriguing stories that are unique to the life of the person being depicted.

Due to limited parking at the cemetery, participants will need to park behind the Columbiana Senior Center located at 110 Mildred Street. From there they can ride the trolley to the cemetery. Hot cider and treats will be provided at the Senior Center.

A number of local actors will be featured on the tour, including Columbiana residents Bonnie Atchison, Bill and Beverly Justice, and their son Denisen Justice.

Students from Calera High School will also play a large “role” in the tour, with many of them acting or assisting with the event.

Tickets for the cemetery tour are $10 in advance and $15 at the event and will be available for purchase at the beginning of October at Busy Hands Gallery, Shelby County Arts Council, Columbiana Public Library and the Shelby County Museum and Archives. Children 12 and under are free with a paying adult.

So mark your calendars for Oct. 29 and come prepared to enjoy a great day full of fun and history.
