POINT CLEAR ­– The Business Council of Alabama recognized State Banking Superintendent and former state Rep. Mike Hill of Columbiana with the BCA’s Distinguished Leader Award on Aug. 6 at the BCA’s 2016 Governmental Affairs Conference.

BCA President William J. Canary presented the award to Hill, whom Gov. Robert Bentley recently named state banking superintendent, at GAC’s Saturday morning session.

“In recognition of his 30 years of committed legislative service, dedication and leadership to the state of Alabama, I present Mike Hill the Business Council of Alabama’s Distinguished Leader Award,” Canary said.

Hill acknowledged the support he has received from the business community over the years.

“I appreciate the BCA and all you have done,” Hill said.

Gov. Bentley appointed Hill to succeed John D. Harrison, who retired June 30 after serving more than a decade as banking superintendent. The governor issued the oath of office to Hill on July 5.

Hill served on the House Banking and Insurance Committee, now the Financial Services Committee, and handled major banking legislation, including revisions to banking regulations.

Hill graduated from Auburn University and attended the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University, and Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma.

The vacancy left on the Alabama House of Representatives when Hill was named the banking superintendent likely will be filled by current Shelby County Commissioner Corley Ellis, also of Columbiana, after nobody qualified to run against him for the seat.
