John Franklin Melton, age 83, of Chelsea, passed away Monday, Aug. 22.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25 at Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea with Bro. Tim Cox and Bro. Wayne Honeycutt officiating. Visitation will be from 8:30-10 a.m., at the church. Burial will follow in Harpersville City Cemetery. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a deacon of Liberty Baptist Church. He coached little league baseball and football for the Chelsea Youth Club for years. He was a devoted Christian and family man.

Mr. Melton is preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Melton and Buna Melton McEwen; and a sister, Clara Melton McGaughy.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Hoyle Melton; daughters, Lona M. Evans (Greg), Beverly M. Lewis (Jerry), and Celeste M. Goodall (Buddy); son, Jason Blaine Melton; grandchildren, Zachary Michael Evans, Holly Lynn Lyons (Chris), David Scott Jones, Emily Lane Goodall, and Albert Gordon Goodall IV; great grandchildren, Harper Lynn Lyons and Hayden Grace Lyons; sister, Glenda Melton Chambless (Jimmy); and numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
