ALABASTER – Two people were transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries after they were involved in a wreck on U.S. 31 in Alabaster on Aug. 25.

The wreck happened at about 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Old Highway 31, and involved a large Ford pickup truck and a smaller Mazda pickup.

Alabaster Fire Chief Jim Golden said the driver of the smaller truck was trapped in the vehicle when emergency crews arrived on scene, and said firefighters used extrication equipment to remove the victim from the vehicle.

After firefighters removed the victim, ambulance crews transported the patient to UAB Hospital, where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries, Golden said.

“While we were getting the patient removed and prepped for transport, the Alabaster Police Department closed the southbound lane of Highway 31,” Golden said. “The road was closed for a total of about 30 minutes, but we were able to remove and transport the patient much quicker than that.”

The driver of the Ford pickup truck was transported by ambulance to Shelby Baptist Medical Center to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
