Bessemer man arrested for drug distribution charges in Helena

HELENA–A 19-year-old Bessemer man is facing drug distribution charges and a pair of drug possession charges after he was arrested and released from the Shelby County Jail on Aug. 26.

The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force arrested Chase Edward Biddy, who lists an address in the 3100 block of McClendon Chapel Road in Bessemer, on Aug. 26 and charged him with two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, one count of attempting to distribute a controlled substance, one count of second degree unlawful possession of marijuana and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to his arrest warrants, Biddy allegedly distributed marijuana on three separate occasions in the 2300 block of Helena Road in Helena on Feb. 10, March 30 and April 5.

Biddy also was allegedly found in possession of marijuana and a digital scale on April 5, according to his arrest warrants.

Unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and attempting to distribute a controlled substance are Class B felonies, according to Alabama law, and punishable by up to 20 years in prison per count, if convicted.

Second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia are Class A misdemeanors, according to Alabama law, and punishable by up to one year in prison per count, if convicted.

According to Shelby County Jail records, Biddy was released from custody after posting bonds totaling $32,000 the same day he was arrested.

Biddy will appear in court for a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 21.
