ALABASTER – The Alabaster Board of Education will be recognized by the Alabama Association of School Boards during a Sept. 15 meeting after the School Board earned the association’s President’s Award.

During a Sept. 12 Alabaster School Board meeting, ACS Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers read a letter from AASB Executive Director Sally Smith praising the board members for completing many hours of training.

“The President’s Award honors school boards which have had at least 60 percent of their members attend three or more AASB School Board Member Academy courses, and all the members have met their state-mandated training requirement in the last year,” read the letter. “AASB’s Academy year runs from July 1 to June 30. This award’s presentation is based on attendance for the 2015-2016 Academy year.

“You are to be commended for your team’s commitment to learning all you can about school board service in order to serve the children of your community,” read the letter.

As a result of earning the award, the Alabaster School Board will be recognized at the AASB’s District 5 meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 at Oak Mountain High School.

“Thank you, School Board members, for going to that training and improving your boardmanship,” Vickers said.
